Volunteer work was only one part of the Mercer On Mission experience in Costa Rica. Through shared meals and afternoon coffee, practicing Spanish, appreciating local wildlife and exploring the country’s landscape, Mercer On Mission students immersed themselves in Costa Rican culture during their trip to La Tigra, Costa Rica, in June 2026.
While serving at Proyecto Asis, a wildlife sanctuary and educational center, students lived with host families who helped them experience what day-to-day life is like in Costa Rica. The work with Proyecto Asis employees allowed students to build relationships with other community members. As they served, these moments became a large part of their experience, providing a deeper understanding of Costa Rica beyond volunteering.
