In Macon, you don’t have to step inside a gallery to find art. Some of the city’s most vivid stories are splashed across brick walls, street corners, and parking decks. These five murals scattered across downtown Macon show how much color and diversity the city has to offer.

1. Riverside at MLK Jr. Boulevard
Created by Macon-based artist Kevin “Scene” Lewis in 2023, this mural is called “Down By The River.” This piece honors the everyday people of Macon from the city’s founding in 1823 to now, and features prominent Macon historical figures.

2. Mulberry Street Lane at MLK Jr. Boulevard
This mural located next to the Douglass Theatre was created by Los Angeles-based artist Hannah Web for the 2024 Macon Mural Festival. The piece features a Great Blue Heron, native to Macon, painted on the MLK parking deck. The mural can be seen from more than a mile away.

3. 240 Second Street
Located across from the Bibb County Courthouse, this mural features local Macon wildlife. Created by Floridian muralist Taylor Shaw for the 2025 Macon Mural Festival, the piece depicts an otter and a heron among native plant life as a tribute to the city’s rich biodiversity.

4. 592 Second Street
Also located on downtown Macon’s bustling Second Street, Virginia-based artist Layton Scarbrough created this mural for the 2025 Macon Mural Festival. Honoring Georgia wildlife, this piece features the Brown Thrasher and the Cherokee Rose, which are the state bird and flower, respectively.

5. Forsyth Street at High Place
Located across from the Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center, this mural honors Albert Billingslea, a historic Macon businessman and civic leader. Created by Atlanta-based artist Fabian Williams, the piece features a towering portrait of Billingslea and was created during the 2024 Macon Mural Festival.
