Yollah
Yolla is a Latin American-inspired restaurant located on College St. near Tattnall Square Park. When construction was wrapping up in 2020, the grand opening was delayed due to the pandemic. Owners Dawn McCullar and Brooke Woods opened the doors in March 2021. The restaurant’s indoor atmosphere provides a bright interior with beautiful artwork, colorful decorations, and a covered garden patio. The outside seating area includes a fire pit, a stage for musical entertainment, and fun outdoor family games like corn hole. Their weekly hours of operation are from Wednesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., however, on Sundays they close at 7:30 p.m. The only times they are not open are Monday and Tuesday.
For drinks, Yollah provides a selection of cocktails with unique cups. Popular items on the menu include a Cuban sandwich, empanadas, tacos, Rice balls, Avocado Toast and the Calamari. Olivia Farris wrote on Google, “Everything is perfectly seasoned and made fresh to order. Not a single person in our large group was disappointed. Rice balls, tortilla soup, grouper tacos, patatas gravas, Paella, Brussels sprouts, skewers and drinks were amazing.” Patrick DuBose also wrote, “A beautiful restaurant with a lot of spirit.”
H&H
H&H is a restaurant that serves Southern comfort in a no-frills atmosphere. The restaurant was founded in 1959 by Inez Hill, known as “Mama Hill,” and co-founded by Louise Hudson known as “Mama Louise,” in Macon, Ga., on Forsyth St in downtown. It is one of the few restaurants in Macon to survive segregation and was known to be a famous spot because the Allman Brothers Band were popular customers. This restaurant was also a location used for civil rights activist groups. The current owners of the restaurant are the Moonhanger group. For their weekly hours, they operate from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., but on weekends they open at 8 a.m.
Popular meals from the restaurant include the biscuits & sawmill gravy, country fried steak, chicken and waffles, and macaroni & cheese. Customer Silu W says, “Amazing biscuit with brisket so tender!! The fried green tomato in the biscuit cuts through the cheese and brisket just right, and I ate it. Amazing food and better service, and I will be back next time.” Curtis Holmes wrote in another review, “The locals come here for a reason as the food experience is definitely top notch!”
Cox Cafe
Cox Cafe opened its doors in 1996 on Lower Poplar St. by David Cox. Cox has a casual class diner feel and is open only on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., though hours may vary.
Popular dishes from Cox include the Chicken fried steak, Grits, Smoked sausage and biscuits and gravy, classic waffle and corn beef hash. Brian Bowen wrote in a Google review, “The staff is always friendly here. Their fried chicken, so good. And they are the only place in Macon that has fried corn bread.”
Village Coffee
Village Coffee is a coffee shop that serves fresh breakfast pastries with coffee drinks. Village Coffee opened in 2024 on Ingleside Ave and was founded by Brandon and Carrie Lawler. The restaurant opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m., on Sundays, they open at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.
Popular drinks include espresso shots, mocha, and cappuccino. Pastries include Chocolate chip muffin, Cinnamon Roll, Banana Bread and customers love the breakfast burrito. Customer Faira Payne wrote in a Google review, “Best breakfast burrito of my life! I got it vegetarian style, with extra egg, and it was SO delicious. Dipped it in salsa and sour cream. It was wrapped and toasted perfectly and didn’t drop a single bean! The Americano was also perfect. But the burrito truly blew me away! Also: staff was infectiously cheerful, decor cool, establishment clean and tidy.”
Macon Bagels
Macon Bagels is a downtown restaurant that sells homemade bagels, breakfast sandwiches, as well as homemade pastries, other baked goods, and coffee. They also have a frozen slushie machine for taking on an iced coffee or iced matcha. The restaurant was founded by Lauren Bone and Patrick Rademaker and opened on 3rd st. in 2021. The restaurant is open Wednesdays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m, and weekends from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Popular options include bacon egg and cheese beagle, Egg and cheese with bacon on a soft beagle, and the Soprano – with cream cheese, ham, salami, onion, and Italian vinaigrette. James Riggs wrote in Google review, “Wow! What a fantastic salt bagel I had with bacon, egg and cheese! I really wanted to have two! The salt bagel sandwich was one of the best I have had.”
