Now that fall is upon us, the anticipation for fall flavors in coffee shops is over. Many stores, including local shops, rolled out their fall menus in late August.
Many of these flavors pull notes of pumpkin, clove, and nutmeg that are not traditionally incorporated into drinks throughout the rest of the year. These spices are behind the taste that many customers anticipate when waiting for fall flavors to make their return for the season.
The anticipation behind the release of these drinks is like no other season. In a statement made to CBS MoneyWatch, Starbucks global chief brand officer Tressie Leiberman said that fall drinks are “cultural touchstones that spark connection, nostalgia and excitement.”
Five of the well loved fall flavors are listed below if you too find yourself looking for the comfort of fall in a cup. These flavors are all listed in the best fall coffee flavors section of Colipse Coffee’s “20 Most Popular Coffee Flavors For Every Season.”
1. Pumpkin Spice
The most notable and well loved pumpkin spice coffee is none other than the pumpkin spice latte, otherwise known as the PSL. This flavor is so appreciated due to the nostalgia the smell brings. While pumpkin is in the name, the flavor is actually a mix of different spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. The pumpkin flavor speaks to the fall season while the spices give the sense of warmth that provides that nostalgia and comfort regarding the season.
2. Pecan
This coffee takes on a more nutty approach. This nutty but yet creamy coffee is a great reminder of fall themed treats that make their way back for the season. Pairing coffee with pecan flavoring enhances the taste of the coffee.
3. Maple
Maple carries the warm and sweet flavor profile that blends well with the fall atmosphere. Maple relates similarly to caramel in its ability to naturally sweeten your coffee while also cutting the bitterness of the coffee.
4. Apple Pie
Apple pie, or crisp, coffee incorporates all the loved fall spices, such as cinnamon and nutmeg, and pairs this with the sweetness of the apple. This drink is popular around fall to accompany the season of apple picking. A hot or cold apple crisp coffee could resemble that of a freshly baked apple pie.
5. Cinnamon
Including cinnamon in your coffee adds an extra layer of warmth that is traditional of those in search of fall flavors, while also making your coffee taste sweeter. This flavor pairs well with most other year round options such as vanilla.
