Pickleball is booming in Macon, as it is nationwide, and players of all ages and skill levels have no shortage of places to play. From the world’s largest indoor pickleball facility to local community parks, the city is home to a wide variety of courts for both professional competitions and friendly pick-up games.
1. Rhythm & Rally
Currently the largest indoor pickleball facility in the world, Rhythm & Rally offers 32 indoor courts and plenty of availability. The facility is open to all skill levels and non-members can reserve private courts at $15 per person.
R&R also offers classes, leagues, and open play, allowing players to improve themselves and play among others of their skill level. Locker rooms, showers, and refreshments are also offered at the 150,000 square foot facility.
2. Tattnall Pickleball Center
Located in Tattnall Square Park, the Tattnall Pickleball Center offers 26 courts open on Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with varying weekend times. Located near Mercer Village and other restaurants and breweries, it’s the perfect park to combine playing with other outings in downtown Macon.
The park is affordable as well, charging a one time $2-$3 fee for playing depending on arrival time.
3. John Drew Smith Tennis Center
Originally a tennis facility, the John Drew Smith Tennis Center is also open to pickleball players for open play. With 24 courts open to the public, it is a reliable choice for many locals and a good option if you’re looking for a casual pick-up game.
The center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, and offers varying weekend times as well. For entrance, an $8 daily pass is available. The facility also offers weekly passes, and VIP passes.
4. Randy Stephens Tennis Center
Located on the Houston Road side of town, the Randy Stephen Tennis Center offers courts for both tennis and pickleball play. The facility hosts various pickleball events, and has lessons for all skill levels.
The center operates from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday to Thursday, and offers shorter weekend hours as well. Players arriving before 5 p.m pay a $2 fee, and any arrivals afterwards would pay $3.
5. South Bibb Recreation Complex
For another outdoor option, the South Bibb Recreation Complex offers eight pickleball courts for just a $2 fee. The courts are open to the public and make for a good casual option for playing with friends.
The courts are open from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday to Thursday.
