The Bear’s Den: Putting the soul in soul food
The Bear’s Den is a restaurant located just steps away from Tattnall Square Park and Mercer University. It serves Southern soul food favorites such as fried chicken and mac and cheese.
The diner is owned by Kevin and Kristi Lyles. Their goal is to make customers feel at home.
“To me, soul food is food that reminds you of what your family would make served by people who treat you like family,” Kristi Lyles said.

When ever I work as a Standardized Patient at the Mercer University School of Medicine I usually have a meal at the “Bear’s Den!” The Mac and Cheese as well as the Fried Chicken are tops on my list.
