1. William Howard Taft had a bigger bathtub installed in the White House
You may be familiar with the “Taft got stuck in a bathtub” myth. While that myth has no factual evidence to prove it’s true, President Taft did request a bigger tub. The White House bathtub was always big enough to fit the president, but he did request a bigger tub so he could sit more comfortably and lounge. He mainly wanted the White House tubs to be bigger so he could float in the bathtub like a pond. Who wouldn’t want that?
2. Theodore Roosevelt had a lot of pets… like A LOT.
Some pet owners have probably imagined what it might be like to have their own zoo. President Roosevelt didn’t have to imagine because he had an estimated 48 pets over his lifetime. Some of his more exotic creatures included a bear, a hyena, a three-legged rooster, and a badger.
3. Richard Nixon proposed to his girlfriend on their very first date
If you believe in love at first sight, you might relate a bit to President Nixon. He proposed to his wife Pat on their first date, convinced she was the perfect woman. She rejected him immediately, thinking he had lost his mind. Nixon decided to play the long game and chauffeur her around town whenever she wanted. He could definitely give the most hopeless romantic a run for their money.
4. Ronald Reagan convinced Mr. T to play Santa one Christmas
Seeing B.A. Baracus in a Santa costume might sound like a fun evening to anyone who was a fan of ‘The A-Team’. President Reagan began his friendship with the actor after Nancy Reagan collaborated with Mr. T during her ‘Just Say No’ campaign. Due to the former first lady’s close relationship to the star, Reagan became close with Mr. T as well. This led to Mr. T dressing up as Santa for the former president’s 1983 Christmas party.
5. John Quincy Adams used to skinny dip every morning
Skinny dipping may not be everyone’s idea of a good time, but President Adams was a dare devil. As part of his daily routine, Adams would go down to the Potomac River every morning and swim in the nude. Local children even stole his clothes on occasion, forcing him to walk home naked.
