Tour of Fort Hawkins

Prove to your kids that you aren’t the oldest thing standing in Macon with a trip to Fort Hawkins. The three-story blockhouse on the property is a 1930s recreation of one of the two original forts that were built on the site in the early 19th century. The windows on the top floor give beautiful views of the Ocmulgee Mounds and downtown Macon. The visitors’ center houses historic artifacts that tell the story of the site from its Native American foundations to the current time.
