A 63-year-old man traveling along Spring Street in a wheelchair was the latest pedestrian fatality for Macon-Bibb County.
According to 13WMAZ, Clyde Haynes was near an I-16 ramp Monday night when he was struck by a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office vehicle. Raines became the county’s 11th pedestrian death in 2026.
All but one of the deaths occurred on a multi-lane road. Sheriff’s office news releases indicated nine of the deaths involved a pedestrian walking in the roadway and in six of those instances, the victim was also wearing dark clothing.
There was also a cyclist killed in March on Hawkinsville Road, but under Georgia law, bikes are legally classified as vehicles. In the March 18 incident, Michael Anthony Hill, 43, was traveling south near the intersection of Avondale Mill Road when has struck by a driver in a 2008 Honda Civic. Hill’s family said he rode his bike to work.
Below is a look at the people who have died in pedestrian accidents this year and the location of those incidents.
Jan. 3: Chad Williams, 45, was working and standing behind a 2022 Mack Terrapro and died when the vehicle began reversing. This happened at the corner of Hartley and Ridge Avenues. Williams was later identified as a Ryland employee.
Jan. 23: Eric Felix Wilburn, 36, was killed while walking along Jeffersonville Road near Purnell Drive. The driver was identified as Daniel Hicks and he was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Feb. 10: Keaira Robinson, 31, was critically injured while walking in the roadway on Gray Highway near Sanford Place, according to the Bibb Sheriff’s Office. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition. An online obituary shows she died on April 9.
Feb. 25: Teairka Brown, 36, was crossing Pio Nono Avenue near Montpelier Avenue when she was hit by a car, according to the sheriff’s office. She left behind six children, according to her obituary.
April 15: James Milburn Evans Jr., 57, was in the center lane of Pio Nono Avenue near Ell Street, when he was struck and killed. According to the sheriff’s office, the driver moved into the center lane to avoid a turning car and hit Evans, who was “walking in the roadway, wearing dark clothing.”
May 10: Michael Keith Miles, 61, was crossing Eisenhower Parkway near Heron Street “in dark clothing” when he was killed, according to the sheriff’s office. The driver was identified as Dadrean Rashard Felton, and he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
May 21: Isaiah Scott, 32, was hit on Log Cabin Road near the intersection of Chambers Road while “crossing the roadway, wearing day clothing,” according to the sheriff’s office. Scott later died at the hospital, and the driver has not been charged.
May 22: Kemontre Azian Braswell, 25, was crossing Hawkinsville Road near the intersection of Kumho Parkway, when he was struck and killed, according to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff noted Braswell was “crossing the roadway, wearing dark clothing.” The driver was in a blue Lexus and has not been charged.
June 23: Tremaine Devon Coats, 36, was “crossing the roadway, wearing dark clothing” on Pio Nono Avenue near Glendale, when he was struck and killed by the driver of a Kia Soul. No charges have been filed.
July 14: Maurice Bonner, 36, was on Gray Highway near Boulevard when he was killed. The sheriff’s office noted he was “crossing the roadway, wearing dark clothing” when he was struck by a gray Nissan. Bonner was not initially identified but the coroner’s office later shared his name.
