Macon-Bibb will host its annual Haunted Hallway Fall Festival this week.
The free, family-friendly event, hosted at the Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center in Macon, will feature a live DJ, games and Halloween candy as well as the main attractions of the immersive haunted hallway and the pumpkin launcher, according to the event’s social media site.
Alesia Waller is the organizer of the festival as well as the DJ. She says she hopes that the festival can benefit families in the area.
“So I love my city and I love the side of town that I come from which is Bloomfield, even though it holds a lot of past negativity, there are a lot of people in the community that wants to see it thrive and move forward past the stereotype that has been given,” she said.
Waller said the Bloomfield gym has been putting together an amazing Halloween event for the past few years.
“Our goal is bring not only the children together but their families. As well as this, the event is an opportunity for families to come to a safe environment and spend time with their children and make memories,” Waller said.
Waller said she aims to appeal specifically to the younger audience by including a bouncy house, face painting and free hotdogs and hamburgers to those who attend. Waller said this festival is different from others because in addition to the haunted hallway, there is a pumpkin throwing contest.
The event is being hosted in partnership with Visit Macon and aligns with their aim of “boosting community fellowship,” as stated on their official website. Waller is encouraged by the good work that Visit Macon and the Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center are doing for the community with the events that they host and promote.
“I saw their work and passion and that inspired me to want to give my time and volunteer in my community. I saw what they were doing and it inspired me to want to be a part of that,” she said.
The event takes place on Oct. 30 from 5-8:30 p.m. at Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center, 1931 Rocky Creek Rd, Macon, GA 31206.
