Proposed $203.9 million budget includes 5-mill property tax rollback

Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller presented his spending plan Tuesday evening before the County Commission votes June 20

When Macon-Bibb County Mayor Lester Miller presented his $203.9 million Fiscal Year 2024 budget Tuesday evening, he totaled up the increase in spending for key priorities in his administration since taking office in 2021.

During the same period, the millage rate has dropped by nearly 7.4 mills with the latest proposed 5-mill decline being offset by collections from the Other Local Option Sales Tax.

In addition to the budget presentation, Commissioners heard about plans for more than $3.3 million in HUD funding through the Emergency Solutions Grant, HOME Investment Partnership and Community Development Block Grants that are distributed through the Economic and Community Development Department.

Here are highlights from the Committee of the Whole, Budget Presentation and regular Commission meeting.
