Macon-Bibb funds new airport director, renames Anthony Road, denies alcohol licenses for some convenience stores

Agenda items passed in Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole require final passage at the Aug. 16 meeting

Macon-Bibb County has budgeted up to $200,000 to fund salary, benefits and costs associated with hiring a new airport director to oversee the county’s aviation facilities at Middle Georgia Regional Airport and the Macon Downtown Airport.

During Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall, commissioners also considered placing further restrictions on alcohol licensing for blighted businesses. The county already prohibits alcohol licensing for what it calls “vice marts,” convenience stores that do not offer fresh food or fuel.

Here are the highlights from Tuesday’s meeting that included a lengthy debate on the renaming of part of Anthony Road for the late Ballard Hudson band director Robert Scott.
