Hundreds travel across the state to attend Family Day at the Georgia Department of Corrections

On Friday, July 15, the Georgia Department of Corrections invited family and friends to meet with them in person at their headquarters in Forsyth to address concerns about the incarceration of their loved ones. Hundreds of people showed up.
Many came to speak directly to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. Elton Jones drove four and a half hours so that he could find answers for his son who has been incarcerated for 20 years.
“In Georgia, the Parole Board files are only viewable by an attorney and we can’t get an attorney to look at them,” he said. “I’m only allotted 10 minutes. But I think I can present a case on what needs to be done.”
The friends and family said they were overwhelmingly pleased with the event. Many stated having their questions answered and how important it was to show up for their incarcerated loved ones. Listen to this radio story for more.
