COVID concerns cancel Macon-Bibb P&Z hearing

The post-holiday rise in COVID-19 cases forced the cancellation of Monday’s Macon-Bibb County Planning and Zoning Commission hearing.
The office is closed to the public, but business can be conducted online in the interim. For the quickest response, inquiries should be sent to [email protected] rather than phoning the office.
Several P&Z employees are quarantining due to illness or exposure and a full staff would be needed to handle the lengthy agenda of 28 items up for consideration, according to staff.
The Dec. 27 meeting was canceled due to the proximity of the holidays which meant a larger agenda for the first meeting of the year.
All items that were up for consideration on the Jan. 10 agenda have been rescheduled for Jan. 24.
The pending agenda includes consideration of several new convenience store applications after a moratorium on new applications was lifted in November.
Commissioners also are slated to consider changes to the code concerning those convenience stores, gas stations and other retail stores. Another amendment of proposed changes governing and defining micro-distilleries, micro-breweries and farm wineries will also be up for a vote.
Although Monday’s meeting will not be held, commissioners are in the process of doing in-person interviews with the final four candidates for the executive director position.
Long-serving director Jim Thomas had planned to retire at the end of the year, but is staying on until his replacement is chosen.
