Mercer University senior & star soccer player Sekou Agard shares his experience of being a student athlete at Mercer University.
In his final weeks as a collegiate soccer player, Agard was able to admire what the sport brought to his life, as well as understand what Mercer University as a school had done to make him the person he is today.
Agard is majoring in cybersecurity and has post graduation plans aligned with the Air Force if soccer is not an option.
“I want to play professional soccer and plan to try and go on trial next semester (trial is a chance for a football club to evaluate a player’s potential and ability to fit into the team), but if that doesn’t work out, I have an internship lined up at Collins Aerospace in Troy Ohio,” Agard said. “If I like working there over the summer then I’ll consider going back for a full time position and if not then I’ll look for other jobs at either an Air Force base, or like Lockheed Martin or cybersecurity positions wherever I can find them,”
While being a student athlete has its ups and downs, Agard has found a home within his soccer family at mercer.
“Even if I did have another year, I’d lose my 12 guys,”Agard said of his teammates. “Those 12 guys are all the guys that I’ve been here with for the last three years. So that’s going to suck, you know, not seeing them all the time anymore.”
