Music, dance and a little back-to-school-boogie headline this week’s events calendar. Time to get in a little fun before heading back to school!

Thrillers!
Great music has always fueled Atlanta’s vibe, and for decades Atlanta-native Arthur “Bud” Smith captured the icons. Smith shot photos for local and national publications and worked for A&M and Motown Records. A new Tubman Museum exhibit of his work features iconic concert photos of Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, Rick James, James Brown and more.
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Tuesdays – Saturdays through late-September; free for members, $6 – $10 for non-members, with tickets details here; Tubman African American Museum, 310 Cherry Street, 31201.
Friday, August 2
First Friday
If you’ve attended a downtown First Friday event you know how much fun it can be! Take your pick — art, music, food and drink, retail therapy, and more. NewTown Macon is rolling out a new event: The Pup Cup Crawl. Bring your furry friends out for an evening on tail-wagging fun. Pick up your passport for the crawl at Mulberry Street Park, across from Robins Financial Credit Union. And bonus news: Family Fun Zone is back with lawn games and more.
5-8 p.m. Pup Cup Crawl and 5-7 p.m. Family Fun Zone; free; Downtown along Mulberry Street. For a full list of activities, including food pop-ups (oysters, friends… OYSTERS!), live music and a silent disco, click here.

“Dancers don’t need wings to fly…”
Am I the only one who can lose track of time while binging on swing dance reels? East Coast Swing has been called by many different names in different parts of the U.S. — Jitterbug, Lindy, Triple Swing — but head down to Warner Robins and you can start calling this really fun way to exercise your new hobby. Ballroom instructor Carl Candiano, who once danced the Cha Cha with former First Lady of Georgia Mary Purdue in front of a large audience, will teach you all the right moves in this four-week East Coast Swing class.
7 p.m. – 8 p.m. on August 7, 14, 21 and 28; $40 per person for the four-week course; VFW, 1011 Corder Road, Warner Robins. NOTE: Classes are taught in order, so there are no new signups after the first class. Payment is by Zelle at [email protected] or (478) 919-0624 or in cash on the first night of class.
