See Doc Holliday’s Supposed Grave in Griffin
Doc Holliday is a legend of the Old West. Made famous in the O.K. Corral gunfight and iconic in Val Kilmer’s portrayal in “Tombstone,” Holliday was a Griffin, Georgia native who, after his time riding with Wyatt Earp, died in Colorado. The mystery picks up there. There is a theory that the Holliday family disinterred his body from Colorado and had it reburied in Griffin with the rest of the Holliday clan. The theory goes on that Holliday family decided Doc’s Griffin grave should go unmarked to stop would-be tourists. Whether or not that’s true is anyone’s guess, but in Oak Hill Cemetery, there is a plaque commemorating the possible site of Doc Holliday’s grave.

August Full Moon Float
Ocmulgee Outfitters’ “Full Moon Float” is a great way to see the Ocmulgee River and its animal life by the glow of the moon. In the two-hour guided tour, which starts at the Highway 83 bridge and ends at Juliette, kayaks are decorated with glow sticks so paddlers can see the river (and each other). At the end of the float, participants return to the put-in location, so no worries about how you’re going to get home.
