Camera system approved for downtown Macon, road repairs for worst streets

Macon-Bibb Commission spends $9 million in SPLOST funds, sets new goals for minority business participation and approves streetlights.

Macon-Bibb County will soon have cameras watching over downtown, Carolyn Crayton Park and parts of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail.

County commissioners unanimously approved the $700,000 10-year contract for the installation, maintenance and licensing of the equipment. The system’s cameras hold images for 30 days, but that data can be uploaded to the cloud for longer storage and not require special computers for storage, commissioners learned in a presentation during the Committee of the Whole meeting Tuesday morning.

All items passed in committee, including increased funding for road repairs that will address the worst streets over the next few years, must be approved in regular session this coming Tuesday.

Here is a collection of tweets that sums up the discussion on the agenda items including spending $9 million in SPLOST money, adjusting the budget to compensate for unanticipated revenue coming in, setting goals for minority and small business participation, and building tiny homes to provide housing for those living on the streets who have been diagnosed with a mental or physical condition.
