Affordable housing gets $7.5m boost in new Macon-Bibb loan program
County Commissioners support the plan to use federal American Rescue Plan Act funding for a new loan program
Macon-Bibb County Commissioners unanimously agreed to support Mayor Lester Miller’s plan to use $7.5 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to provide more affordable housing by providing incentives to builders and developers.
At Tuesday’s committee meeting, commissioners approved shifting the federal money to the Macon-Bibb County Affordable Housing Fund, and using that money to apply for matching grants to grow and sustain a revolving loan fund that will be used to eliminate blight and help qualified owners and developers build affordable housing or renovate and maintain existing properties.
The fund’s board includes representatives from the Macon-Bibb County, the Land Bank Authority, Macon Housing Authority, Urban Development Authority, Community Foundation of Central Georgia, Synovus Bank and Stafford Builders & Consultants.
Here are Tuesday’s other highlights in a series of tweets sent during the committee meeting.
