Macon may seem like a ghost town with so many people on vacation, but there are still plenty of things to do around town this week. There are bird walks and bands and selections from Broadway that will make you glad you chose a staycation this year.
Friday, July 15
The Douglass on Broadway
The Douglass’ Stageworks Summer Theatre Camp wraps up their six-week session with a performance by their aged 7-to-14 year old campers. The campers will perform selections from the musicals “The Wiz,” “The Lion King” and “Annie.”

Euphoria
Presented by the Ocmulgee Artist Guild, this one night only art exhibit will feature work from 15 artists. In addition there will be a live model drawing station, music from the band Headstrings and refreshments. All of the art will be loosely based on the theme of time and available for purchase.

Dog Days of Summer at Barks N Brews
Dog owners don’t need a logical reason to dress their dogs up as Magnum P.I. with dog-sized sunglasses and teeny Hawaian shirts (oh my gosh, can you imagine?!?), but if they did, Dog Days of Summer would be the reason. Barks N Brews encourages dog owners to dress their pups in their most creative summer styles with the bar/dog park debuting their new splash pad and bubble machine to add to the fun of this all ages summer event.

Bird Walks with Amy Alderman at MAS
Amy Alderman of the Audubon Society will lead a walk around the Sweetgum Trail at the Museum of Arts and Sciences. During this walk, Alderman will teach and identify birds native to Georgia.

Back to School Period Drive at 7th Street Salvage
Macon Periods Easier is a local non-profit that raises awareness about period poverty in Middle Georgia among students and others in need and provides menstrual products to schools and other agencies. This will be their first annual community drive for menstrual products for Bibb County School District students. They are looking for donations of thin pads, flushable wipes, panty liners, youth underwear sizes 8-16 and menstrual cups. Free gourmet popsicles will be given to the first 100 people who donate.

Trufflelina at Grant’s Lounge
Local sweet tea psychedelic band Truffelina plays Grant’s Lounge on Saturday. The band has compared their sound to “Ween” and Frank Zappa and has a loyal local following. The band’s line up has rotated through the years and currently stands as: Clark Bush on bass, William Dantzler on drums with Cody Kurt and Ben Vance on guitar. Vance pulls double duty as lead singer as well.

The Market at Addison Tinsley Park
The Market is a monthly farmers and makers market event presented by NewTown Macon and located on Addison Tinsley Square on Poplar Street between First and Second streets. Musical group Dean Brown and Dubshak will be performing throughout the event. The Market will feature vendors Pearson Farms, OhSoCute Succulent Boutique and Pat’s Big Ma Peach Cobbler and many more..

Macon Film Guild Presents: “Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story” at The Douglass Theatre
Filmed at the 2019 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, this rated PG-13 documentary showcases New Orleans’ signature event on its 50th Anniversary. The film delves deeply into the music and culture of Louisiana and New Orleans. Prior to the film at 6:30 p.m., join the Macon Film Guild Happy Hour at the Douglass Theatre Annex for jazz, snacks and craft beer.
