Macon-Bibb grapples with trash collection, violent crime, business blight
Mayor Lester Miller shared plans to combat late trash pickup, commercial blight during committee meeting.
Macon-Bibb County Commissioners voiced frustrations Tuesday about delays in trash pickup and recycling collections during manpower shortages.
During the Committee of the Whole meeting, Mayor Lester Miller explained that temporary recycling centers will be installed at some fire stations while Waste Management struggles to staff routes. While the first trash convenience center is being constructed at the old animal shelter on 11th Street, a site near the old landfill scales has been identified for the interim.
Commissioners also took action to strengthen commercial blight remediation efforts and learned about funds available through the Department of Economic and Community Development.
Here is a summation of Tweets hitting the highlights of actions taken that will need final approval on June 1 during the 6 p.m. meeting at Commission Chambers at City Hall.
