Already a vegetarian? Trying to transition to a vegetarian lifestyle? Or simply trying to limit the amount of meat in your diet? Luckily, the city of Macon offers a unique cuisine with restaurants that have a wide variety of meatless options.

If you’re in the mood for Vietnamese food…

Pho Saigon

In the mood for Vietnamese food? Pho Saigon is a 4.5 star restaurant located on Riverside Drive. Its menu features an entire section of foods specific to vegetarians with meals under $10. These dishes include rice, noodles, egg, vegetables and even tofu. The dish shown above is called Hu Tieu Xao Chay, meaning Vegetarian Stir Fried Noodles ($9).

If you’re in the mood for Greek food…

 Papolili’s Mediterranean Café and Market

When most people think of Greek food, they usually assume the dish will include lamb or beef. Fortunately, Popolili’s Greek restaurant on Tom Hill Blvd. caters to the vegetarian population of Macon. The restaurant offers a variety of meatless salads as well as a sandwich called “The Vegetarian”- which includes lettuce, onion, tomato, feta cheese, avocado, sprouts and the restaurants’ signature sauce for $5.49 (as seen above).

If you’re in the mood for Mexican food…

El Camino

This taco restaurant located in downtown Macon has a few vegetarian options that are not listed on the menu. Ask your server for fried avocado tacos (shown in picture) to spice up your vegetarian pallet. Each individual taco costs $3.50.

If you’re in the mood for a burger (stick with me)…

The Rookery

The Rookery is one of the most well-known burger places in Downtown, Macon. When most no-meat-eaters hear the word burger, they immediately think they need to go elsewhere. Think again! The rookery offers a veggie patty for all the burgers on the menu. Keep in mind that some of these burgers do have bacon, like the Ray Charles and Dr. John Burger, so make sure to ask for one with no meat. The burgers cost around $9-$12.
