Series: What Makes Macon Home
John Stewart:
“I left Macon in 73 and moved to Atlanta to work for AT&T after finishing Fort Valley State College. They laid us off and life got a little rough. And I remembered Macon feeds people every day. They do not let the homeless go hungry. I was catching the devil, so I’m thinking if I’m going to catch hell, I’d rather catch hell at home. That’s why I came back to Macon, I had good family here. Then came my retirement and I bought a house up here…right up the street from Mercer and what used to be Miller High School. But I also realized… Macon ain’t that bad…who else do you think would feed the homeless, so yeah I think a lot of Macon.”
