Confucius Institute Day at Wesleyan College

Every year in September, Wesleyan College hosts its annual Confucius Institute Day. This year, the event will take place on Saturday, September 28th. The Confucius Institute focuses on promoting the Chinese language and culture. This festival gives the CIWC, Confucius Institute at Wesleyan College, the chance to celebrate the 7th Confucius Institute Day.

“What this event is, is basically just a celebration to mark the work that Confucius Institutes’ do around the world,” says Dr. Nicholas Steneck, Director of Confucius Institute. “It’s an opportunity for people to come and learn more about the work that we do which is really just to promote learning of Chinese and to learn more about Chinese culture.”

By hosting this festival, those at the Confucius Institute hope to facilitate intercultural experiences between people from different backgrounds. The event showcases different booths where visitors can participate in different activities. A few of these activities include learning about Chinese calligraphy and Chinese cooking. There are also events that are specifically created for children such as the costume event.

One of the major attractions of the Confucius Institute Day is the performance. The performance is a mixture of interactive dancing and singing. This year, interactive rap and a DJ will also be added to the performance line-up. Last but not least, visitors are also able to participate in a raffle where they can possibly win prizes from China. The event is free and open to the public.

The festival will take place on Saturday, September 28th from 1 to 4 pm at Wesleyan College.
