Five memes every parent needs to send to their kids

Until recently, my parents had no clue what the word meme even meant. One day my dad started sending me grumpy cat memes. Needless to say, I was embarrassed by his lack of knowledge about modern memes. This list will help you step up your game and further embarrass your children.

1. Keyboard Cat

Keyboard cat is a great introductory meme for parents. Not only is it funny, but it is old enough that your outdated knowledge of memes alone will embarrass your kids. After all, it worked for my dad.

2. Rickrolling

This is where embarrassing your kids gets complicated. To ‘rickroll’ your kids, you first need to be aware of some history and tools. ‘Rickrolling’ occurs when you click on a link thinking it is one thing, but the link actually takes you to a video of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”. Any millennial will instantly be embarrassed that they got rickrolled, especially since their parents were the ones who did it. To do this, simply put the YouTube link for the song into Bitly’s link shortener. The next step is to send the link to your kids with a caption. You paste the Bitly link between periods in the message. By putting the link between periods, messaging apps don’t display link previews. The text should look something like this: Woah I can’t believe they actually did this! .http://bitly.com/IqT6zt.

3. Drake

The Drake meme is another easy to understand meme. The top section is a picture of rapper Drake rejecting something in the text to the right and the bottom section is him accepting the text. Using this handy meme generator, you can customize the Drake meme to say whatever you want. Make sure to make a custom meme that fits the conversation and shocks your kids.

4. Grumpy Cat

Grumpy cat memes channel all of our inner Monday energy. The meme has more versatility than other memes. Don’t like Mondays? Grumpy cat memes understand. Kids forgot to do their homework? Grumpy cat memes understand.

5. Flossing

Flossing is the easiest meme to use to embarrass your kids with. Flossing is a dance made popular by the game “Fortnite”. Seeing parents dancing in public is bound to embarrass children. Seeing them do a dance from their favorite game? A golden opportunity.
