Storytellers Macon, an organization created to give people in the Macon community a space to ‘tell their truth,’ held their final open-mic event of the year on Dec. 10, 2024. Storytellers Macon has an open-mic event each month where anyone in the community is invited to come to Grants Lounge and tell a 5-minute story that is related to the designated theme. This month’s theme, “Under the Lights,” originated as a way to celebrate the holidays. It inspired stories about everything from pregnancy, food drives, drug use, to losing a loved one. Beyond the prompt, the event explored themes of vulnerability, community, love, and respect for others. Director Koryn Young, Ed Grant Jr, and featured storyteller Erin Hall talk about the importance of storytelling, as a listener and as a speaker, and why it creates a better world.
