Get ready to throw on an apron or get your hands dirty because Macon has several crafty areas you can visit. If you’re a seasoned artist or looking to begin an intro class, there are several regional venues to try.
McEachern’s Art Center
As a tie between Mercer University’s art department and Macon’s downtown studio, the McEachern’s Art Center holds workshops led by artists. Visitors can attend the art gallery from Thursday to Saturday between 4-8 p.m. or attend their 2-hour workshops to practice different forms of creative skills. A few past instructions included freehand drawing and acrylic application. Through these sessions, artists share their expertise to promote education in a variety of mediums. Pretty Lux Co. Studio
After opening in the summer of 2023, Pretty Lux Co. Studio stands as Middle Georgia’s initial Black and woman-owned candle-making studio. Their homemade products can be created personally during networking events or scheduled sessions. Under the guidance of expert candle makers, you can pour your custom-made candle from a list of luxury ingredients. Couples can enjoy a creative retreat in a private 2-hour session with supplies and complimentary wine provided. Pretty Lux can be found in downtown Macon at 536 3rd St. Reservations for scheduled events or private parties can be booked online.
Artspace Macon
Created by three sisters from Macon, Artspace is an environment for creative experiences. Aside from weekly art classes, workshops, and an afternoon children’s art club, Artspace is also a studio for inventive activity. Visitors can explore an array of sessions involving watercolor, artful journaling, sound bathing, and even cupcake decorating. Located at 2378 Ingleside Ave Macon, the studio is open from Tuesday to Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Tables can be reserved at available times to work on individual crafts selected from their art menu. Supplies are provided with the purchased, chosen project.
567 Center for Renewal
Founded in 2008, The 567 has expanded over a decade by cultivating downtown Macon’s culture. The center originally shared space with its founder, New City Church, but has relocated since to 456 First St. They provide the community with opportunities for art education through shows, studio memberships, and classes. Their beginner-friendly classes vary from painting to pottery and other arts in between. From November to December, the center holds an exhibit for the public to purchase local artists’ work. To visit 567 Center for Renewal’s gallery, admission is free and is open Monday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Macon Clay
Macon Clay hosts classes for both kids and adults in downtown Macon. Instructor Amy McCullough exposes visitors to several hand-building clays in her teachings. In her creative classes and workshops, she directs techniques for sculpture and pottery. Several past functions included making animal figures, jewelry, and Halloween themed projects like skull cups. Catch Macon Clay and the opportunity to learn how to construct your own clay before they officially close in December! To honor their closing, they will hold an end of an era sale on Dec.14 from 12-6 p.m.
