Adult Spelling Bee
Is onomatopoeia obvious? Sacrilegious a cinche? Eudaemonic, easy peasy? If so, hustle yourself down to Yollah for your chance to be crowned Macon’s Adult Spelling Bee Champion! Register for a spot to compete and know that your registration is a donation to Centenary Community Ministries, an organization committed to homelessness prevention in Macon. Just want to be a fly on the wall? Enjoy food and drinks and know that a portion of your tab will be donated to CCMI.

On the Far End
This one-woman play written and performed by Mary Kathryn Nagle (Cherokee), “one of the country’s most-produced Native playwrights”, tells the inspirational true story of Muscogee activist Jean Hill Chaudhuri. The show explores the importance of sovereignty for Indigenous nations through Chaudhuri’s tireless fight for justice, Nagle will provide a compelling story for contemporary audiences to listen to in Macon, which was built on Muscogee ancestral homelands.

Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15
32nd Annual Ocmulgee Indigenous Celebration
Enjoy one of the largest celebrations of Southeastern Native American culture while learning from the people whose ancestors were on this site thousands of years before the city of Macon was founded. The event features traditional cultural crafts, storytelling, live demonstrations, music, and dance. A variety of Native American artisans and vendors will be there and kids get a chance to make pottery and enjoy other fun activities.
10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; free admission and free parking and shuttle from Macon-Bibb Health Department, 171 Emery Highway. NOTE: the free shuttles run continuously starting at 9:15 a.m. between the parking area and the event location. An ADA accessible bus with wheelchair lifts will be available. Only service animals are allowed on the shuttles. No on-site parking is available at the park.

HOP, SKIP & JUMP: Say Goodbye to the Giant Pandas (Atlanta)
Zoo Atlanta is preparing to send Lun Lun, Yang Yang, and the twins home to China this fall, but there’s still time to see them and say goodbye, if you’re willing to get up early. During a 45-minute experience you’ll have exclusive access to the public viewing area before the zoo opens. An educator will give you will get a glimpse into the morning routines of the animals and their caretakers. After a short guided tour you’ll have to time to view the pandas and write a farewell.

Fabian Concert Series
Enjoy an evening of Schubert, Debussy, Telemann, and Tchaikovsky in the intimate setting of Mercer University’s Fickling Hall as internationally renowned guest artists play side-by-side with McDuffie Center for strings faculty and students. This concert features Israeli violinist Itamar Zorman, winner of the 2011 Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition. The program includes Schubert’s String Trio in B-flat major, Debussy’s Sonata for Cello and Piano, Telemann’s Concerto for Four Violins in G major, and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence.
