Probably the coolest thing happening this week is the Perseid meteor shower. Find yourself a dark place to put down a blanket, lay back and watch 50 – 75 meteors (aka shooting stars) fill the sky each hour. If you’re willing to take a drive, Explore Georgia has a great guide to the 15 Best Stargazing Spots in the state. The best viewing should be Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday night.

Lies My Teacher Told Me
In the world of education, teachers sometimes tell small fibs—stories that aren’t quite true, but serve a purpose. Whether it’s claiming they have eyes in the back of their heads or warning that misbehavior will go on a “permanent record,” these lies often carry a hint of humor and a lesson. This month’s Storytellers Macon ope-mic event reflects on teachers’ tales that are sometimes amusing, sometime absurd, but almost always well-intentioned and educational. Here how teachers use creativity to manage classrooms, engage students, and sometimes just add a bit of fun to the school day.
6:30 p.m.; free; if you want to share your teaching story, sign up before the event https://bit.ly/2024StorytellersPresentsSU, Stories are limited to 5 minutes per person; Grant’s Lounge, 576 Poplar St, 31201

Amerson Riverwalk
There’s never a bad time to head to Amerson Park for a leisurely trek or good power walk (okay, yes, 96 degree temps might be a bad time …. or rain). Go on! Tighten up those shoe laces and head out to rack up those steps!
And a final heads up: Macon Film Festival is next week and there’s a great slate of films. Click here to see the schedule, buy ticket and learn about volunteer opportunities.
