This week in Macon there will be a visit from Santa for special-needs children and adults, a chance to support local artists at their budget-friendly sale and a visit from some very famous reindeer. 

Thursday, Dec. 14

Macon Bike Party-Holiday Hustle

Called the “jolliest ride of the year” by Bike Walk Macon, this slow paced community bike ride will take in some of Macon’s best Christmas lights. Riders are encouraged to attend in Santa outfits, ugly Christmas sweaters or other festive attire. There will be several stops on the ride to pick up some sweet treats, so make sure to bring your wallet. The event kicks off at the Bike Walk Macon headquarters  with a quick bike safety demonstration at 6 p.m. The ride itself starts at 6:30 p.m. and runs until 8 p.m. The route is released 24 hours prior to the ride on the Bike Walk Macon Facebook Event page.

$3 Art Show at the Macon Mall

This fundraiser for the Ocmulgee Artist Guild is entering its sixth year with something a little bit different. There will still be the signature $3 art for sale but this year also features more expensive pieces available as well. All sales are first come, first serve, so make sure to get there early to pick up some uniquely local Macon art.

Saturday, December 16

Live reindeer with Santa at the Macon Christmas Lights Extravaganza

There will be an extra helping of holiday magic at Poplar Street Park when Santa Clause brings his reindeer to Macon on Saturday. Kids (and kids at heart) can get some face time with Santa and pet his famous flying herd.

Wesleyan Woods Luminaries

The Wesleyan Woods neighborhood continues its tradition of lighting up homes and streets with luminaries for the holiday season. The Wesleyan Woods Garden Club organizes the event which is free and open to the public.

Monday, December 18

Take a Winter Walk 

It’s cold and it’s dark, but winter doesn’t have to be depressing. Get your heart pumping with a winter walk at one of Macon’s walking trails like the one at Amerson River Park. The trails at Amerson are a great place to see nature’s seasonal changes. For those more history focused, the Ocmulgee Mounds have trails that overlook downtown and wind through wetlands, covering thousands of years of history.

Silent Santa at Washington Memorial Library

There are still a few spaces available for the Silent Santa event in the genealogy library of Washington Memorial Library. This event is an inclusive, low-sensory visit with Santa for special-needs children and adults. Call the Washington Memorial Library to make an appointment.

Wednesday, December 20

Public Ice Skating at the Macon Coliseum 

Along with taking a drive to look at Christmas lights and participating in a cookie swap, going ice skating is an activity  that seems mandatory over the holidays. For $7 skaters get an hour of skating plus  rental skates. For newbies, don’t forget to bring thick socks.
