In town this week, we have a three days long birthday party, a classic ballet that has been updated and a reason to wear pajamas out of the house.

Thursday, Nov. 30

The Dire Waltz at Grant’s Lounge

Local Grateful Dead tribute band DireWoof will play musical selections from The Band’s “The Last Waltz” farewell concert turned foundational concert documentary.

Handel’s “Messiah” with the Middle Georgia Choral Society at St. Joseph’s Church

After nearly 300 years, this choral masterpiece is still drawing crowds. The Middle Georgia Choral Society, joined by the Mercer University Choir, takes on this staple of the Christmas season at neo-gothic St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in a genius match of venue and performance.

8-9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday; $10 tickets available at eventbrite.com, Mercer students and staff free with Mercer ID; 830 Poplar St., 31201

Saturday, Dec. 2

Bob Lennon with Magnolia Moon at Society Garden

Local songwriter, singer and artist Bob Lennon, takes the stage with Magnolia Moon in a mash-up of styles. Lennon is known for his modern take on hip hop and Magnolia Moon is a 70s-inspired-rock band; however, both are great so this should be a not-to-miss show.

8-11 p.m.; $15 tickets available at eventbrite.com; 2389 Ingleside Ave., 31204; (478) 508-7096; thesocietygarden.com

Sunday, Dec. 3

Dark Chocolate Nutcracker at the Douglass Theatre

This live production reimagines the famous ballet, “The Nutcracker” with jazz, hip hop and modern dance. There are some tickets left, but it’s a good idea not to wait until the last minute in case it’s a sell-out show..

3:30 p.m.; $25 tickets available at douglasstheatre.myboxoffice.us and at the door (if available); 355 Martin Luther King Jr., Blvd; 31201; (478) 742-2000; douglasstheatre.org

Monday, Dec. 4

Little Richard’s Birthday Celebration

Macon is celebrating what would have been the 91st birthday of a beloved local icon, Little Richard, with a three-day (Dec. 4-6) celebration that stretches from Pleasant Hill, to Downtown, to Ingleside Village. There will be a free screening of the 2023 Little Richard documentary “I Am Everything,” at the Douglass Theatre, a book signing at Washington Memorial Library featuring Little Richard biographer Jordan Bassett plus cake and ice cream at the Little Richard Penniman House Resource Center (along with a bounce house, which every good birthday party needs). There will be Drag Queen Bingo at Society Garden and a special Macon Music Review show at Grant’s Lounge featuring the music of Little Richard. See the Little Richard’s Birthday Celebration Facebook event page for activity dates and start times.

Tuesday, Dec. 5

Music Therapy with The Kenny Ray Williams Band at JBA

The great thing about this weekly event at which singers and musicians are encouraged to share their music with the backing of the Kenny Ray Williams Band, is: if you chickened out last week, you’ll have the opportunity to try it again this week.

9 p.m.; Free; 425 Cherry St., 31201; jbamacon.com

Wednesday, Dec. 6

Christmas Cookie and Wine Tasting at Just Tap’d

If eating cookies and drinking wine in your holiday pajamas sounds like an ideal Wednesday night, then head over to Just Tap’d on Wednesday. There will be four wine pairings  matched with Christmas cookies made by local bakery Annie’s Oven. A sommelier from Savannah Distributing will be on hand to share insights about each wine.

6 p.m.; $21 tickets available at eventbrite.com; 488 First St., 31201; (478) 599-9951; justtapd.com
