Bibb County Sheriff David Davis spent the better part of an hour answering county commissioners’ questions about staffing concerns and jail conditions during Tuesday’s meeting.

The Commission approved Davis shifting $1M from the commissary fund to make repairs in the aging facility where four inmates escaped in the early hours of Oct. 16.

During its first meeting in November, the Commission also amended its policy for short term vacation rentals, agreed to continue contracting with Contour Airlines to provide passenger service from Middle Georgia Regional Airport, bought up about three-quarters of an acre of land along Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. near the Greenwood Bottom beautification efforts, purchased another three acres on Chambers Road near the Harrison Road Walmart, and blessed NewTown Macon’s efforts to obtain Georgia Department of Natural Resources grant funding to extend the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail into Rose Hill Cemetery.

Here’s a summation of the discussions and actions taken during the Pre-Commission meeting, public hearing and regular Commission meeting.
