Events in Macon for the week of August 4-10
With the Macon-Bibb schools starting, it seems like summer break is wrapping up. Before you despair that your life will only involve carpool lines, packing lunches and PTA meetings, take a look at all the events in town this coming week and know that there is life outside the chore chart.
Thursday, August 4
“Love, Loss and I What I Wore” at Theatre Macon
The award-winning play, adapted by Nora and sister Delia Ephron from a book of the same name, comes to Theatre Macon on Thursday. The show — comprised of monologues and ensemble pieces — highlights important events in the characters’ lives, symbolized by what they wore at the time. The show runs from Aug. 4 to Aug. 7.

Friday, August 5
First Friday Downtown
There are so many events happening this coming First Friday that it will make your head turn. Some highlights include NewTown Macon’s Family Fun Zone in Third Street park, Reboot’s “South Park” anniversary celebration trivia and cosplay event, and Kinjo’s “After Hours” event with DJ Chuk-D. Time, locations, and admission prices vary. We recommend calling ahead.

“Y2Slay: a 2000s Drag Show” at Society Garden
Local Macon drag troupe “The Tribe” bring their talents to Society Garden on Friday. The five performers, their DJ (local legend B3) and two of their up-and-coming “Tribe Next Gen” queens will lip-sync to all the hottest hits from the 2000s while serving looks and bringing the glamour.

Makeda Nichelle at the Serenity Entertainment Complex
Local R&B singer Makeda Nichelle, known for her chic and sophisticated music, performs Saturday at the Serenity Entertainment Complex on Poplar Street. Audiences may have seen her perform before at A Brook Haven Lounge or heard her new album, “336.”

Dungeons & Dragons & Boba, oh my! at Hello Boba Cafe
Boba Cafe is now offering twice monthly Dungeons and Dragons game afternoons.The number of D&D players in Macon could amount to a small army, so a new game-hosting location is always welcome. For $10, attendees get a seat at the game table and either a refreshment or special item for the game. All materials provided, but gamers can bring their character sheets, dice and miniatures if they like. The event will fill up quickly. We advise that you stop by Hello Boba to purchase your game token before the game day.

Storytellers Presents: The Dog Days of Summer at Grant’s Lounge
Everyone loves a good story, and no one tells stories better than Storytellers Macon. Each of their monthly story events have a different theme (August’s themes are summer and dogs) and featured storytellers (it is Sonja Tillman and Christie Flowers for this month). People planning to attend are encouraged to sign up to tell their stories too. If you plan on bringing children, be mindful that the stories are uncensored. The organizers ask those attending to bring items for donation to local dog shelters.
