If you and your family are looking for something to do in these last few weeks of summer, check out the Downtown Macon family-friendly passport.

The passport is a part of the “Macon Action Plan 2.0” started by Newtown Macon in hopes to attract more families to downtown.

Director of Place of Newtown Macon and Main Street Manager, Emily Hopkins has been working closely with the summer passports program and explained that the event was set up to mimic summer reading, and prizes that kids can receive after reaching certain levels. There are twelve total activities on the passport, with only a few of the events requiring any payments. 

Hopkins explained that, “pretty much all of them with the exception of maybe one or two are things that require absolutely no purchase or no money to do.”

Hopkins said that Main Street Macon’s goal was to allow any family to enjoy all that the downtown area has to offer, no limitations.

Main Street Macon event coordinator and owner of Felicia’s Cake Factory, Felicia Howard, says that the event has been very helpful for the businesses downtown.

She said that business owners are saying, “it was a great idea because it brings more awareness to their business.”

Families have to complete either three, six, nine or twelve activities in order to receive different prizes. When a family reaches 12 completed activities, they can attend the First Friday Family Fun Zone on Friday, August 6 to collect a prize packet. Any family that completes 12 activities will also be entered into a drawing for a chance to win $100.
