While the public knows of classic artists like Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers, there are a variety of modern entertainers who have tie s to Macon. From music to Broadway, these are six modern entertainers born or raised in Macon, Ga.
1). Rhett McLaughlin
Rhett McLaughlin, 48, is a part of the YouTube duo “Rhett and Link.” McLaughlin was born in Macon but moved away when he was three-years-old. The comedy duo together have channels like “Mythical Kitchen,” “The Mythical Show” and “Rhett and Link.” They are most known for their talk show “Good Mythical Morning,” where they interview celebrities including Madison Beer, Cameron Monaghan, Terry Crews, Ian Somerhalder, and Macauley Culkin. Topics on “Good Mythical Morning” range from food and science experiments. Overall, they have a total of over 30 million subscribers on YouTube.
2). Grey Henson
Grey Henson, 35, actor, singer, and dancer, is most known for originating the roles of “Damien Hubbard” in Mean Girls on Broadway where he received a Tony nomination. Henson performed at the Macon Little Theatre and Theatre Macon before continuing to graduate from Carnegie Mellon University. He attributes his love for theatre to Macon and its community. Henson currently stars in Off-Broadway’s Bigfoot! The Musical as Bigfoot. He is also featured in the FX television series, “Love Story,” as one of John F. Kennedy, Jr.’s friends.
3). Torres
Mackenzie Ruth Scott, 35, performs under “Torres,” as an indie-rock musician. While Scott was born in Orlando, Fl, they were raised in Macon, Ga. Scott was raised in a conservative Baptist household which heavily influences the themes of sexuality and gender identity within their songs. Since 2012, Torres has released seven albums. They currently are in a group with Julien Baker, Boygenius member, called “Julien Baker & Torres.” Their country influenced album, “Send A Prayer My Way” was released on Apr. 18, 2026 and has a total of more than 430,000 streams on Spotify. Torres’s most streamed song, “Sprinter” has nearly 6 million streams on Spotify.
4). Sasha Hutchings
Best known for her role as ensemble and an understudy for Peggie Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in the Broadway production “Hamilton,” Sasha Hutchings, 37, went to Central High School in Macon, Ga. where her dance instructor told her she should pursue dance. She performed on Broadway in the musicals “Hamilton,” “Motown: The Musical,” “Rocky the Musical,” “My Fair Lady,” “Oklahoma!,” and “Gypsy.” Hutchings has also been in a few episodes of TV like Smash and Jessica Jones. She currently sings the role of Cowgirl in Eisa Davis and Lin Manuel Miranda’s concept album “Warriors.” The album is being adapted into a full fledged musical.
5). Montego Glover
Montego Glover, 52, originated the role of Felicia in the Broadway production of “Memphis” for which she received a Tony nomination. She was born in Macon, Ga. but was raised in Chattanooga, Tenn. She starred in other Broadway productions like “Dreamgirls,” “The Color Purple,” “Les Misérables” and “Into the Woods.” Glover is currently starring as Rose in the Broadway revival of, “Gypsy.”
6). Carrie Preston
Actor, director, and producer Carrie Preston, 58, is best known for her role as Arlene Fowler in the TV show “True Blood” and as Elsbeth Tascioni in “The Good Wife.” She is also in the film, “The Holdovers.” Preston was born in Macon, Ga. and moved to South Carolina. She received a Primetime Emmy Award for her work in the show “The Good Wife.” Preston is currently playing Elsbeth Tascioni in the series, “Elsbeth.” A spin off series for the original character.
All of these entertainers are influential in their own right and continue to put the city of Macon on the entertainment grid.
