With the next Presidential election coming up in November of 2020, the list of candidates can be hard to keep up with. What is even more notable is the number of women running for a single party’s presidential nomination. As of right now, there are six women entered for 2020’s election. Is this next election cycle going to be the one that breaks the glass ceiling?  

Elizabeth Warren, 69, Democrat from Massachusetts

You may remember her as a prospective candidate for the year presidential election. However this year, she has formally put her cat in the ring. According to her website, she started out as a bankruptcy law professor at Harvard. She is a Massachusetts Democrat and is noticed for the DNA testing she did in order to prove her Native American heritage. Once an advisor to Obama, she petitions for more regulations on Wall Street and big corporations.  

Tulsi Gabbard, 37, Democrat from Hawaii

Formerly a part of the Army National Guard, Democrat Gabbard from Hawaii is known for supporting Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries and for meeting with Bashar al-Assad in. She opposes American military intervention overseas.

Kamala Harris, 54, Democrat from California

Elected in 2016, Harris is the second African American woman in history to be elected to the U.S. Senate, and the first African American to serve as Attorney General of the state of California. She says she is not advocating for recreational marijuana, just medical.

Kirsten Gillibrand, 52, U.S. Democratic Senator from New York

Gillibrand previously served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2009. However, she has changed her policy positions and is now one of the Senate’s leading liberal champions. She is also well known for her statement, “I’m going to run for president of the United States because as a young mom I am going to fight for other people’s kids as hard as I would fight for my own.” Gillibrand heavily petitions for women’s equality and opportunity.

Amy Klobuchar, 58, US Democratic Senator from Minnesota

Serving as a United States Senator from Minnesota, Klobuchar is mainly known for her interaction as questioner to Brett Kavanaugh’s hearing following the accusation that he sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford when they were both teenagers. She advocates to reclaim the Democrat swing states in the middle of the country and has also combatted the opioid crisis and drug addiction by championing legislation.

Marianne Williamson, 66, Democrat from Texas

Williamson ran for Congress as an independent in 2014 and lost. Now a Democrat who has sold multiple self-help and spirituality books, Williamson champions for the rights of gay men with AIDS. She founded Project Angel Food which supplies meals to people with serious illnesses and has proposed a $100 billion in reparations for slavery.
