Grant’s Lounge 52nd Anniversary Celebration at Grant’s Lounge 

Grant’s Lounge opened in 1971 and has had such musical greats as The Allman Brothers Band, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton and Wet Willie play their stage. Grant’s is celebrating its anniversary all weekend with special shows. Thursday’s show will be local band, Big Mike and the Booty Papas.

Friday, Feb. 17

Black History Month Family Fun Night at the Frank Johnson Recreation Center 

This family fun night will feature an art session hosted by local artist Char Lockett, book giveaways and story time at their Literacy Lab, music trivia for adults and prizes for elementary school students dressed as Black history heroes. There will also be a discussion session on violence prevention and community enhancement.

Telling a Story With Your Photos at the 567 Center for Renewal

Freelance documentary photographer Dsto Moore leads this introduction to documentary photography class. Moore will teach technical skills, but also the communication skills necessary to make the subjects comfortable, enabling for great photographs. No prior experience is necessary to join the class and attendees are encouraged to bring their own cameras.

Macon Trailblazers & Activists Reception at the Tubman African American Museum 

The Black history of Macon is celebrated in the photography of former AJC staff photographer Johnny Crawford and in the paintings of the late artist Wilfred Stroud at this exhibition reception. The work of both artists celebrates the lives of Black Maconites who enriched their communities while staying mostly anonymous. Wilfred Stroud’s wife, Mary Stoud, will receive the Act of Courage award on behalf of her late husband at the reception.

Monday, Feb. 20

Wesleyan Arboretum at Wesleyan College

The Wesleyan Arboretum is made of 100 acres of mixed pine and hardwood forest. The arboretum has more than three miles of hiking and walking trails that feature dozens of different species of trees, bushes and wildlife. It’s also a great place to bird watch with over 100 different kinds of resident and migratory birds.

Mardi Gras by the Creole Peach at Grow Restaurant 

Guest Chef Odilee Kelsey (the Creole Peach) cooks up some New Orleans inspired dishes at this one-day pop-up event. The menu includes classics like red beans and rice, shrimp creole and bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Grow’s regular menu will be available alongside Chef Kelsey’s.

Wednesday, Feb. 22

Syncopated Ladies at the Grand Opera House 

Tap queens and viral sensations (Beyonce is a fan, apparently) bring their empowering dance skills to the boards of the Grand Opera House. This girl-group of tap was founded by Chloe Arnold, a choreographer who was a protegee of Debbie Allen’s and has been seen on “So You Think You Can Dance,” “Good Morning America” and “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
