Coach Chris Carswell is looking for spunk in the newest members of the Majorette Dance Team at Miller Fine Arts Magnet Middle School. This short documentary is a window into the team’s tryouts.

Carswell says the girls who stand out and have personality are the ones that are easiest to coach. He isn’t looking for technique quite yet, because that is something they have time to learn.

“Ultimately, I would like to have some girls that go off to college and, you know, dance for like some of the HBCUs that the girls look up to,” Carswell says. “I want to be able to go to a game and say oh, that’s my dancer.”
