New water safety rules governing Amerson Water Park could go into effect in late March with Macon-Bibb County Commission approval.

Headliner comedy, a “witch float” and First Friday are just a few reasons to hit the town this week, but they’re not the only reasons. See below for what else Macon has in store this week.

 

Thursday, Oct. 6

“In the Heights” at the Douglass Theater

The film version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first Broadway hit comes to the Douglass for one night as a part of their Hispanic Heritage Month. “In the Heights” is a musical that concerns itself with the dreams of the people of Washington Heights, a Dominican neighborhood in upper Manhattan. The stage version won a Tony for best musical when it debuted in 2008. The film version underperformed at the box office but received a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94%.

Friday, Oct. 7

First Friday Downtown

This month’s First Friday offerings include the grand opening of the new age gift shop, The Bohemian Den (502 Cherry St., 31201; (478) 227-7785) with live music by Chocolate Thunder and Slick Jimmy Down Under. For the art lovers, the 567 Center (456 First St., 31201; (478) 238-6051) will host the opening night of “Barnyards & Bones” featuring paintings by Kelly Kernich and ceramics by Jamie Adams. Rock Candy Tours  ((478) 955-5997) is offering a seasonal walking tour downtown called “Macon Macabre”($15). Creep it Real Yoga at Fall Line Brewing 

The yogis of Hometown Yoga are celebrating spooky season with a costumed yoga session at Fall Line Brewing. The event is free and family friendly.

Ron White at the Macon City Auditorium 

Comedian Ron White brings his nation-wide comedy tour to Macon on Saturday. White, nicknamed “Tater Salad,” became a household name as a member of the “Blue Collar Comedy” troupe that included Jeff Foxworthy, Larry the Cable Guy and Bill Engvall. White is known for his storytelling and his omnipresent glass of scotch and cigarette.

Sunday, Oct. 9

2022 Macon Witches Float at Amerson River Park

Come dressed in your best witch’s costume for this second annual Macon Witches Float that benefits Macon Periods Easier, a local nonprofit that addresses the need for free mensural products for low-income women and girls in Macon. Floaters are encouraged to bring their non-motorized flotation devices for this two-hour float down the oxbow in the Ocmulgee River. Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions will be on hand for float rentals if needed. Attendees bringing a feminine product for donation on the day are given a raffle ticket with prizes such as a free paddle excursion from Ocmulgee Outdoor Expeditions. Event is weather permitting. Check-in starts at 2 p.m. and the last transport back to the parking lot is at 5:30 p.m.

Storytellers Presents: Thriller at Grant’s Lounge

Have you seen a ghost? Are you a roller coaster addict? Storyteller’s theme this month is all about what gets your heart going. Featured storytellers Pilar Wilder and Renee Corwine will tell stories about what has thrilled them in the past and attendees are encouraged to sign up to tell their own true and thrilling stories.

Darts Tournament at JBA
