Macon Pride: Friend of the Groom

As a part of Macon Pride Week, Theater Macon presents “Friend of the Groom” is a full-length autobiographical monologue stage production about an ill-fated green card wedding in the early 1990s. A gay, white New York architect — fresh from a breakup with his long-term partner, David — agrees to marry a Japanese dancer so she may remain in the U.S. This one-man show featuring Mark Mobley is a lighthearted and touching play about how weddings can quickly get out of hand.

Historic Macon Flea Market Preview and VIP Party

Macon’s favorite (and most fashionable) flea market is being held Oct. 1 and Oct. 2 with a preview party and early shopping hours on Sept. 30. Historic Macon holds a flea market twice a year. Their flea market events are less “flea market” and more antique sale (with some occasional sporting goods and electronics thrown in). Depending on which preview event tickets are chosen, attendees can start shopping at 6 p.m. ($35) or 5 p.m. ($100). Ticket holders gain access to the Macon Beer Company flea market party. With items such as furniture, rugs, mirrors, and lawn items at Historic Macon’s Oglethorpe Street warehouse, attendees are sure to find something cheap, chic, and antique.

All Hands Art Festival

The All Hands Art Festival is a three-day (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) juried art festival and competition that kicks off on Friday night with a VIP party. All Hands showcases art made with clay, glass, metal, or wood. It includes art vendors, demonstrations, an exhibition, live music, food trucks, and Art Olympics where 3D artists can compete in technical competitions in their craft.

Macon Pride: House Party featuring Angeria at the Hargray Capitol Theatre

Sparta native and RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant Angeria Paris Van Michaels will be a featured performer at the drag House Party at the Hargray. The show is a part of Macon Pride Week.

Macon Music Festival at the Macon Coliseum

Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Anthony Hamilton headlines this R&B show on Saturday. He will be joined by singer and television personality Keke Wyatt and Grammy-nominated R&B crooner Carl Thomas.

Lane Southern Orchards Fall Days at Lane Southern Orchards

Open Streets Macon: Bike Parade

Open Streets Macon comes to the Pleasant Hill neighborhood on Sunday with a Bike Parade. Organized by Bike Walk Macon, Open Streets is a “car-free celebration of public spaces.” There will be a bike decorating tent on Jefferson Long Hub on Pursley Street with pipe cleaners and other crafts to decorate attendees’ bikes before the parade. Pursley Street will be closed for the parade.

Mercer University Opera Presents Gilbert & Sullivan Gala

Gilbert and Sullivan are known for their toe-tapping comic operas that are as popular today as they were when they were first performed in Victorian England. Students from the Mercer University Opera Department will perform crowd favorites from the Gilbert and Sullivan shows, “The Pirates of Penzance,” “The Mikado” and “HMS Pinafore” among others.
