A Jazzman’s Blues 

Tyler Perry wrote and is directing “A Jazzman’s Blues.” According to Deadline, the film follows an investigation into an unsolved murder unveiling a story full of forbidden love, deceit, and a secret that has been held for 40 years. The filming took place around Macon’s downtown area, with buildings painted to represent 1937-1987. The film is set to be released in 2022.

 

I, Tonya

Directed by Carain Gillespie, “I, Tonya” is a film about the rise and fall of figure skater Tonya Harding. The cast is made up of heavy-hitters like Sebastian Stan, Allison Janney, and Margot Robbie. The film received 25 major nominations in 2018 for things like the Golden Globe Awards and the AACTA International Awards. The film ended up winning eight awards overall, with three of those wins being from the Academy Awards. Margot Robbie was also nominated for an Oscar. The filming took place at the Macon Coliseum, which was used to film all of the skating. It was released September 8, 2017.

 

Hillbilly Elegy

This 2020 film directed by Ron Howard follows a Yale student who had to come back to his hometown in Ohio, and reflects on three generations of family history and his own future according to IMDB. Macon stands in for Ohio throughout the film, as lots of the exterior scenes were shot here. It was released November 11, 2020, and starred Amy Adams, Glenn Close, and Gabriel Basso.

 

Black Widow

Directed by Cate Shortland, starring Scarlett Johansson, and scheduled to release July 9 2021, this film follows Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in her quests between the films Civil War and Infinity War according to IMDB. Macon was featured in exterior scenes of this movie.

 

The Fate of the Furious

Directed by F Gary Gray, this movie follows Dominic Toretto, as he is seduced by a woman into the world of terrorism and a betrayal of those closest to him. The Middle Georgia Regional Airport was featured in this film during an escape scene.
